Project Title: Project to Advance the Durability of Long-Lasting Insecticide-treated Bed Nets (PADNET)
MCDI was awarded the Project to Advance the Durability of Long-Lasting Insecticide-treated Bed Nets (PADNET) in October 2012 by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Partial funding is provided by USAID’s Global Development Laboratory Operation’s Research project, which assesses the impact of both Behavior Change Communications (BCC) and repair kits in prolonging the useful life of Long-Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLINs) in South-East Benin. Project stakeholders include Cotonou’s Entomological Institute (CREC), Benin’s National Malaria Control Program (PNLP), the Center for Disease Control, and Oueme’s DDS.
Under PADNET, MDCI has conducted a baseline survey and developed a detailed operations research plan, created data collection systems using Android phablets, and procured and distributed LLINs. PADNET uses the Data for Action initiative funded by USAID’s Global Development Laboratory to disseminate actionable data aimed to frontline health workers and health managers at district, health zone, departmental and national level.
PADNET’s major accomplishments include the following:
